Impending motherhood has me thinking about my budget. I’m no math wizard, but I’m pretty sure my grocery bill is going to go up, and my income is going to go down while I’m on leave. That means making some changes to my spending habits….particularly in the beauty department.
This shouldn’t be too hard; when it comes to things that I use everyday and have to replace often, I try to choose budget friendly options whenever I can. For example, I routinely use drugstore foundation, concealer and mascara. In spite of my thriftiness, though, there are still a few spendy staples that I would like to replace with drugstore alternatives:
1) Urban Decay Primer Potion – This is a tough one, because I’ve used this product for years, and it’s been a real struggle to find something that can stand up to my oily lids as well as this does. I’ve dabbled with others here and there, but I always come back to this one. Today, I’m test driving a promising contender from NYX. I’ll let you know how that pans out.
Urban Decay Afterglow 8 Hour Blush in “Fetish”
You want to know what impressed me most about this new blush from Urban Decay? It actually makes a reasonable claim about wear-time! After seeing so many products make meaningless and ridiculous claims to wear for 24 or even 48 hours, it’s nice to see a product make a realistic claim. (If I ever go 48 hours without washing my face, then I’m either dead or camping.)
I picked this up in the shade “Fetish” which is a matte dusty rose with a hint of warmth. It’s the kind of shade I like to wear when I want a blush that’s not going to compete with whatever I’ve got going on my eyes.
Although the colour is nice, the formula of this blush doesn’t thrill me. It’s on the dry side and kicks up quite a bit of powder when you dip your brush in. I also expected more in the way of pigmentation, but it’s pretty sheer. (I really had to build to get the swatch you see below.) I’d say it does make good on its promise to wear for 8 hours, but it doesn’t last much beyond that.
The 2014-2015 cold and flu season has been a doozy for me. It started with a cold the week before Christmas. Then in February I had a nasty flu that morphed into a cold. (That sickness lasted about two weeks). Now, I’m just getting over yet another cold. Hopefully this will be my last bout of sickness this year. When I’m really feeling ill, I do try to stay home and spare everyone else my germs, but, as I’m sure all of you hard working people out there know, sometimes taking a sick day just isn’t an option. Duty calls! Besides, colds tend to drag on forever, and you have to go back to work and face the world eventually. Below are a few of the products that helped me get back to work looking more or less like myself in spite of the sniffles. Read on for my sick-day beauty tips.
I’ve been on a bit of a concealer kick lately and had really high hopes for the Naked Skin Concealer from Urban Decay. I’d heard really good things about it on YouTube and couldn’t wait to try it out for myself.
I picked this up at Shoppers the other night and have been trying it out for a couple of days. So far…I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it either. Read on to find out why.
I’m pretty sure when the jailer man and sailor Sam were searching everyone, they were looking for this:
The “On the Run” palette from Urban Decay. I was lucky enough to receive this as a birthday gift from my sister (thanks Nicole!), but I would gladly fork over my hard-earned dollars for it if I hadn’t. I’ve been using this over the past few days and really enjoying it. It’s perfect for those rushed, barely coherent mornings before work.
