Review: Revlon PhotoReady Eye Primer + Brightener

Standard

I love a good peachy correcter for the under-eye area. I find they cancel out some of the darkness and help hydrate the delicate under-eye skin so my concealer goes on smoother and has better coverage. Lately, I’ve been using this one from Revlon:

revlonbrightenerThis one is touted as a primer and brightener. I can’t see this working as a primer, and I haven’t even bothered trying it for that. Unless you have really dry lids and don’t find that your eye makeup creases, then this is strictly a brightening correcter for dark circles.

Like so many products in this category, it comes in a pen-style package where you twist the bottom and the product dispenses through a brush at the top. And like so many products in this category, when you first open it, you have to twist and twist and twist…and just when you think it’s broken, a whole bunch of product comes gushing out! I hate that. Once you get it started, though, it’s okay. I can now just click it a couple of times and get a reasonable amount of product out.

As you can see from the swatch, this one is on the sheer side and has just a hint of subtle shimmer. It’s thinner in consistency and doesn’t offer as much coverage as my much loved Maybelline Eraser, but I think it’s a little more hydrating and definitely gives my concealer a boost. Where it can’t compete with the Maybelline one is in value. The Revlon pen holds a meager 2.4 ml compared to Maybelline’s 6 ml. I’ll use it up, but I doubt I’ll repurchase.
