Review: CoverGirl Full Lash Bloom Mascara

As promised, here is a full review of the Full Lash Bloom Mascara by CoverGirl.

Covergirl Full Lash Bloom Mascara

I’ve been fairly impressed with the last few CoverGirl mascaras I’ve tried. I think “Clump Crusher” is my all-time fave, but “Full Lash Bloom” is a close second. This one definitely wins for packaging. The ultra-feminine pink tube with flowers on it is what drew me in at the store.

The claims? According to the CoverGirl website, the petal-shaped brush and mousse formula with natural beeswax are supposed to make lashes full and soft to the touch.

The results? I find this mascara gives my lashes a full, fluttery look with no clumps. It’s not the most dramatic mascara I’ve ever used, but it’s great for a soft, feminine, everyday look. Before and after pics below:

141214 004One thing to note is that I have noticed a difference in how Full Lash Bloom wears compared to other CG mascaras I’ve tried. I didn’t notice it the first few times I wore it, but upon closer inspection, this one does flake a bit towards the end of the day. That surprised me, because I’ve never had that issue with any of the others from the Lash Blast line. It’s not a total deal-breaker for me; I still enjoy using it, but I expected a longer-wearing formula.

Another Sampling from Flower Beauty…

A while back I picked up a couple more items from Flower Beauty. (Read my initial thoughts on this line here.) I got a lip product this time: Sheer Up Lip Tint in “Lacy Laurel.”

flowerThis particular shade is pretty close to my natural lip colour, so I find myself reaching for it whenever I want a bit of “barely there” colour. As the name implies, it is VERY sheer. There are some brighter, bolder looking shades in this line that probably have more colour payoff. My only real gripe about this product is that it could be a little more moisturizing. It has a slight waxiness to it that can feel a bit drying at times. If you’re starting with well-hydrated lips, then it probably won’t be a problem for you, but if your lips are at all dry or chapped, it could cause a bit of discomfort. Sometimes I layer it over a plain lip balm if I need a moisture boost. Overall, it’s decent quality for the price, and I would consider trying other shades in the future.

Monday Evening Pick-Me-Up

Last Monday I needed a little pick-me-up after work and treated myself to a couple of things from London Drugs…my intention was to buy candy, but of course the gremlin re-routed me to the beauty department. Once I got to the beauty department, I spotted two things I couldn’t go home without. The limited edition “Nic’s Picks” set of brushes from realTechniques and the “Full Lash Bloom” mascara from CoverGirl. My rationale for these purchases: well the brushes are limited edition, they have silver handles and three of the brushes are exclusive to this limited edition set, so that’s a no-brainer. The mascara? It’s pink, has flowers on it, and Katy Perry was on the display. Those are good enough reasons for the gremlin.

I’ve been using the brushes and the mascara over the past week and am loving both so far. I’ll follow up with full reviews of both very soon. Stay tuned!

I have always loved watching “Empties” videos on YouTube. You know? the ones where people hold up empty bottles and talk about products they’ve used up. I decided to start a series of “Empties” posts where I will do the the same thing, but you don’t have to actually watch me wave the empty bottles around while I blather on. This month’s empties are featured below.

1. Vichy Purete Thermale 3-in-1 Micellar Solution

I’ve already written a review of this product here, so I won’t waste too many words on it in this post. It’s a decent micellar solution and does a good job of removing eye makeup quickly and gently. I enjoyed it enough to use it up, but there are far better ones out there for the price, and there are so many others I want to try, so I won’t bother to repurchase this one.

2. Batiste Dry Shampoo

I always like to have a can of dry shampoo on hand to deal with greasy roots on my “second-day hair.” I’ve repurchased Batiste a few times and will continue to do so, but not this particular version. This is the “Wild” version, and although the leopard print can is adorable, the scent leaves something to be desired. It’s sickly sweet and kind of…..old lady-ish? Not a fan.

3. Bath and Body Works Three Wick Candle in Island Margarita

I finally used up one of my BBW candles! This was one of the summer scents, so you probably can’t get it now, but I would consider getting it again. It burned really well, had good throw and I enjoyed the scent. Kind of fruity/floral/tropical…..I’m horrible at describing scents. I liked it.

4. AG Hair Cosmetics Recoil Curl Care Shampoo and Conditioner

I can’t rave enough about AG Hair Cosmetics. Their products are high quality and actually make a noticeable difference in my hair. I’ve been a long-time fan of the Recoil styling products and decided to try the shampoo and conditioner from the same line. LOVE! I have already re-purchased and will continue to do so. Seriously, if you have curly hair with a mind of its own, check out the Recoil line from AG. They make curls soft, defined and manageable. They also control frizz without weighing the hair down or causing build-up. Customer for life! (Plus, it’s a Canadian brand, and the products are made right here at home.)

5. NeoStrata Oil Free Smoothing Lotion Level 3

This is a 10% glycolic acid lotion meant to provide some serious exfoliation, and it really works. It has made a huge difference in my skin. I’ve been using it for about 5 months, and it has definitely made my skin smoother. I also get way fewer blocked pores. I have repurchased this, but I must point out that it’s been re-vamped and reformulated. They changed the name to Glycolic Renewal Lotion. They’ve added a bit of fragrance to it, and the consistency has changed (it’s a bit thicker now), but Iuckily I’m still getting good results from the new formulation. I’ll keep buying this as long as it keeps working. It’s pretty expensive, but I don’t mind paying for skin care that works!

That’s all for now! Check back next month to find out what else I’m throwing out.
