I don’t usually let seasonal trends dictate how I wear my makeup. I follow my moods more than anything. Fall, however, is the exception. September/October is my favourite time of the year, and that definitely gets reflected in my beauty choices. There is one timeless fall trend that I go back to year after year. And I’m not exactly sure why that is. It’s as though whatever biological mechanism that tells the Canada goose to fly south also tells me to start reaching for products to create my quintessential fall look. The products change from year to year, but the look remains the same: a bronzy smoky eye and a plum/berry lip. I see this look popping up on beauty blogs and in style magazines every fall, so I know I’m not alone on this one.
Below is a sampling of the products that I’ve been using this fall…

Hi, my name is Lisa, and I love makeup. I started a beauty blog, because I love talking about makeup and needed an outlet for my obsession.
I called my blog Fifty Shades of Taupe for a couple of reasons:
1) I needed a gimmicky name, and all the good ones were taken. This one’s probably taken too, but if it doesn’t appear on the first page of Google results, then it’s up for grabs. I’m pretty sure that’s the rule.
2) It alludes to a running gag between my equally beauty-crazed sister and I. We often joke about how we buy the same shade of eyeshadow over and over, convinced that each one is special, uniquely formulated and totally not the same as the 49 others we have stashed in a drawer at home.
What makes my blog different than all the other beauty blogs out there? Well, it’s special, uniquely formulated and….okay, it’s just like all the others, but if you’re anything like me, that won’t deter you from reading it.
