Ciaté Mini Mani Month #7: Amazing Gracie

Standard

ciate#7No, I haven’t given up on my mission to post pics of each of the polishes in the Ciaté Mini Mani Month advent calendar that came out this past holiday season. Here we have the shade “Amazing Gracie,” a pale, slightly pinky cream shade. It’s cute, but I wasn’t crazy about this one, because it went on kind of streaky. It took three coats to get to full opacity, and then it took ages to dry. I think this shade is easily dupe-able, and you can probably find it in a superior formula. I know Essie has several similar shades.

“Pillow Fight” by Ciaté

I haven’t done one of these for a while, because I’ve been giving my nails a break from polish, but here is the latest shade I’ve tried from the Ciaté Mini Mani Month set. “Pillow Fight” is a creamy combination of blue-grey-purple. I really like it. It’s a unique shade and is eye-catching but still understated. It has a glossy finish on its own, but I took things a step further and applied a matte pearl topcoat from Revlon just to kick things up a notch.

Ciate Mini Mani Month #5: Candy Floss

Standard

ciatecandyflossI am so ready for it to be spring! I wasn’t overly attracted to this shade when I first brought home the Ciate Mini Mani Month Advent Calendar, but I am now! It’s the perfect pastel pink for spring.

It does remind me of cotton candy…and also the Barbie car that my sister and I used to have. There are a few other pastel shades in the set that I’m eager to try, so keep your eyes peeled for those coming soon.

Ciate Mini Mani Month #4: Starlet

Standard

210215 011Last week I tried the shade “Starlet” from the Ciate Mini Mani Month advent calendar. This is a duochrome shade that looks purple in some lights, green in others. For fun, I decided to pair this with a matte top coat. The top pic  is two coats of the polish on its own. The matte top coat (bottom pic) gave this polish a softer, satin finish which I actually prefer.

I’m not a huge fan of this shade. I like how it looks when the light hits it just right and you can 210215 024really see the purple pearl running through it. More often than not, though, it just looks like a sludgy grey. It looks stunning in the bottle, but just doesn’t translate to the nails.

Game Changers: CND Vinylux Weekly Top Coat

Standard

It is really rare for me to finish a bottle of nail polish. Even staple nail products like top and base coats tend to hang around in my collectiotopcoatn for ages because I have several different ones that I use regularly. Lately, though, I find myself nearing the bottom of my CND Vinylux Weekly Top Coat. This stuff literally outshines all other top coats in my stash. I’ve decided to bestow Game Changer status on this product because it has everything I look for in a top coat:

Goes on smoothly without bubbling? Check.

Sets quickly so I can go to bed or run errands without fear of denting or smudging a fresh manicure? Check.

Super glossy finish that doesn’t wear away after only a day or two? Check.

Prevents chipping and cracking to extend the wear time of my favourite polishes? Check.

Doesn’t turn into a thick, gloopy sludge after only a few uses? Check.

Doesn’t require an industrial strength solvent to remove? Check.

Yeah…I’m picky when it comes to top coats. I’m nearly finished my current bottle and am already itching to go purchase a replacement. You know you’re in love with a product when the thought of running out and having no replacement induces anxiety. Seriously, I better go to the mall after work tomorrow and get one…
